Workers' Compensation Claims and Choosing Doctors

At the Work Injury Law Offices of George S. Henderson in Long Beach, we have been helping injured workers get the benefits they need for more than 30 years. We believe that we are equipped to answer your questions and fight for a fair outcome.

If your workers' compensation claim has been admitted (accepted), then you are required to see a doctor in your company's medical provider network (MPN). This is called a medical network provider. These doctors work for your employer's insurance company. Their primary goal may be to get you back to work. Our goal is to get you the medical care and the lost wages that you are entitled to receive so you can recover.

Can I Get a New Doctor?

If there is a dispute about your medical treatment and you have an admitted disability claim, then you may seek to resolve that dispute by having an independent medical evaluation by a doctor that both you and your employer agree upon. This doctor is called an agreed medical examiner (AME).

What Is An Agreed Medical Examiner?

The AME is a doctor chosen by agreement between the injured worker and the employer. The goal is to resolve medical disputes regarding treatment. The doctor's report can play an important role in the outcome of your workers' compensation claim.

In many cases, where an employer has referred a client to an MPN doctor, once an attorney is retained, an attorney may be able to get the client out of the MPN where a doctor of the client’s choosing is available. If a client is unable to get out of the MPN, the client has a right to choose a new doctor within the MPN.

We have an extensive network of respected, experienced doctors.
